FED Conference 2022

Zuken and CSK are attending 29th-30th September to develop ideas to shape change in design, manufacturing and management processes for electronics

eCADSTAR and CSK are attending the 30th Edition of the FED Conference in Potsdam

The FED Conference 2022 focuses on tackling design industry issues and how to shape them for the better through dynamic change. From the 29th to 30th of September 2022, the Electronics Design Association will host the 30th FED Conference in Potsdam, this time on the topic “Shaping Change: Optimising design, manufacturing and management processes for electronics ” with an accompanying exhibition.

The conference is a platform to find out about and exchange information on processes, solutions, and new trends. All development and manufacturing processes for electronic assemblies and devices will be discussed. The event is aimed at PCB designers, production and project managers as well as decision-makers from management and sales. Over the course of two conference days, participants will have the opportunity to exchange specialist knowledge and receive targeted further training.

Zuken and CSK are attending this historic year for the FED conference and we have exciting trends and updates to share with you at the event, with a fantastic talk planned by simulation expert Ralf Brüning.

Ralf Brüning and co-speaker Rainer Assfalg explore the increasing importance of AI in PCB design and how it could overcome the increasing complexity of future designs and reduce the amount of traditionally manual EDA processes.

In addition to this, they will show examples of where AI is currently being used in real products, plus provide an outlook on future AI projects.

If you are a circuit board designer, production manager, or a decision maker in electronics then this is one talk you don’t want to miss!

What you can expect in the presentation about AI

The development of PCBs and electronic assemblies is currently carried out in traditional EDA-supported design processes, mostly manually with selective automation. In the future, the increasing complexity can only be mastered with the help of improved methods and design tools.

At the same time, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in engineering is rapidly gaining importance in broad fields of application. Machine learning (ML) has become a driving force of innovation and development in a variety of fields. Thus, PCB design (expert task with complex subtasks, but also with routine activities, with large amounts of data and often a large number of design iterations) also suggests itself as an application for the use of artificial intelligence techniques.

The goal of the progressivKI project, which started in April 2021, is to research and prototypically define an AI-supported design process for electronic systems in motor vehicles (funding priority Automated Driving) through cooperative operation of various AI systems.

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) is funding research into the development of safe, innovative electronic systems. In the project, 18 partners are working together in a consortium. The article presents the project, the state of the art, and the first interim results.

In the second part of the presentation, we will show you some examples of where and how AI is used in real products. Furthermore, we will give you an outlook on possible future AI projects.
