For both the occasional and regular user, CADSTAR offers a powerful and flexible user interface with common functions in familiar locations. Properties and extended functionality are accessed either via mouse or keyboard assist menus.
Layer Stack and Assignment editors allow PCB design configuration to meet electrical and manufacturing requirements. Schematic and PCB layout templates can be created for commonly-used design configurations. Critical components can also be pre-placed in a template to minimize design time and ensure the PCB layout aligns with the enclosure.
Pattern replication and design block reuse enable efficient reuse of existing placement patterns or entire design blocks. Adding pre-defined circuit blocks in the schematic greatly speeds up the design process, while using matching blocks in PCB layout (including parts, routes, copper and text on multiple layers) reduces layout time and minimizes risk during EMC verification by reusing previously tested ‘known good’ layout blocks.
With advanced copper handling and the ability to create split, partial, embedded and full copper planes, CADSTAR enables precise control for analog design, including curved and mitered cutouts, hatching with flexible angles and variable spacing. Teardrops, curved tracks and automatic track fattening, plus the ability to maximize a copper area extend the capability of CADSTAR to meet both analog and high-speed digital layout requirements for matched impedance and delay-based routing.
CADSTAR generates a range of manufacturing output formats including Gerber, NC drill, DXF, PDF, placement files, IPC-D-356, ODB++ and parts list (bill of materials) reports. Preparing for manufacturing is simplified with the batch processor feature that allows you to build your own selection of outputs and create a full set of manufacturing data at one time. A range of pre-defined reports are provided, and the report generator creates configurable reports such as placement machine drivers and detail lists.
With more than 250,000 parts in the online library, CADSTAR has an extensive range of parts from which to build your design. You can also create your own footprints and parts using the Graphical Library Editor, which incorporates design wizards for building large or complex footprints.
Available Extensions
CADSTAR PCB Design Editor allows for a multitude of extensions to meet your specific design requirements
The CADSTAR Place and Route Editor 2000 provides a mix of manual, auto-interactive and automatic tools for PCB placement and routing. It has been optimized for performance, quality and manufacturability to meet today’s advanced technology design challenges.
CADSTAR Board Modeler Lite bridges the gap between electronic and mechanical design, allowing a bi-directional data translation between CADSTAR and any 3D mechanical design system via the generic STEP or ACIS data formats.
Zuken’s highest level router. Place and Route Editor XR 5000HS (high-speed) offers specific additional functionality targeted for high-speed PCB design, such as DDR2, DDR3, DDR4 and PCI Express.
The Dragon Routing Platform has access to all of the routing tools available in the P.R.Editor application. The tool required in order to complete a step in the strategy will be automatically selected and will be transparent to the user.
The Rules-by-Area package is a powerful extension to the CADSTAR P.R.Editor XR 2000 tool-set that enhances Zuken’s routing technology by allowing the association of different design rules to different areas of the design
EMC performance is becoming critical to companies moving into high-speed board design. CADSTAR EMC Adviser enables and supports both circuit designers and design engineers who need to manage and improve electro-magnetic compliance of PCBs.
CADSTAR SI Verify offers a complete concurrent and post-layout signal integrity solution that enables engineers, layout designers and specialists within a development team to collaborate, organize, constrain, and verify their design in a seamless process. This helps them work more effectively, minimize costs, and improve overall time to market.
CADSTAR Power Integrity Advance provides fast and practical power integrity and electromagnetic interference analysis within the CADSTAR PCB design flow, offering EMI, AC and DC power analysis to help you determine the best decoupling and power distribution strategy for your layout.
CADSTAR Variant Manager allows you to manage all the variants of a design within a single Schematic and PCB design file. Enables you to generate variants of a ‘master’ design without having to maintain separate files for each variant.
The CADSTAR Library Editor provides a complete solution for creating and editing symbol, footprints and part information for PCB design. Integrated into the CADSTAR framework, Library Editor shares the same set of user interface and configuration settings with the other applications in the CADSTAR family – making it easy to learn and maximize productivity during product development.
CADSTAR Design Viewer is a free download that lets you share and access CADSTAR design data easily on any of your preferred Windows platforms.
